Rothamsted business tenant Nouisol, have announced the result of their latest field trial – NouriSol fertiliser has led to a 21% increase in crop yield compared to chemical fertiliser. This result demonstrates that it is possible to reduce the environmental impact of agriculture without sacrificing yield.
NouriSol develops fertilisers that harness the power of microalgae already present in farmers’ soils. A unique platform is used to select the most efficient algae strains, based on their ability to both fertilise plants and enhance soil health. These strains are then cultured and scaled up, using sunlight and atmospheric CO2 and N2 to grow.
Marine Valton, CEO of NouriSol says, “Our mission is to harness the power of microorganisms already present in farmers’ soils to create sustainable solutions that benefit farmers, the environment, and future generations. This appearance allows us to share how our products are transforming agriculture and helping to address pressing global challenges like climate change, soil degradation and nitrogen run-off.”
Their exciting work featured in a BBC news article here and Marine discussed how NouriSol is revolutionising farming with algae-based products that improve soil health, crop growth, and reducing the negative environmental impacts of agriculture, on the BBC programme ‘Ready Meals: What They Really Mean for You’ on BBC One on 31st March at 9pm (available on iPlayer).
