Rothamsted Enterprises, home to leading venues Rothamsted Conference Centre and Rothamsted Manor, announces a new partnership with coffee supplier Paddy & Scott’s, a collaboration all about leaving a great taste in people’s mouths, literally, by delivering great coffee and social impact.
The British-owned coffee company is at the forefront of pioneering within the coffee industry through their own farm and their simplified supply chain methods. The ground-breaking and award-winning Muchomba Project in Kenya was set up as a commercial joint venture in 2017 between Paddy & Scott’s and a Kenyan smallholding coffee farm. Born out of the founder’s shock after learning how little farmers receive for their crop (just 1.5 cents per cup), their aim is to share the retail margin with the coffee farmers and their communities.
The ongoing ethical work by Paddy & Scott’s also supports a range of global charitable projects, such as building schools in Africa, feeding schoolchildren through their Lunchbox coffee option, providing fresh water and sanitation facilities and creating community enrichment projects.
The partnership will also provide ongoing operational support and specialist barista training to Rothamsted Enterprises team members.
Steph Forrester, Operations Manager at Rothamsted Enterprises commented, “Sustainability is at the heart of what we do at Rothamsted. Many large venue operators look to just find the most cost-effective coffee and suppliers. Our campus is dedicated to implementing good throughout all that we do.”
Scott Russell, founder of Paddy & Scott’s, said “It is an honour that Rothamsted Enterprises have joined our crusade and created a new game changing partnership with Paddy & Scott’s. We believe a simple cup of coffee can make a hugely tangible difference, by empowering coffee farmers all around the world. We pay fair prices for our coffee, ensuring that farmers are rewarded for their hard work and can break away from parasitic supply chains. Using recyclable and compostable materials to minimise our impact on the planet, Paddy & Scott’s represents the power that a simple choice can have on creating a better world through something as small as a cup of coffee.
We are so proud to be working with Rothamsted Enterprises and to share such a strong vision for change. This world class centre for science, innovation and quality has just committed to a better existence for coffee farmers and their families around the world. This partnership will deliver in excess of 10,000 free school meals for coffee growing regions over the next few years.”
